Love is a cosmic joke
We planned our partners, fine and grand,
With perfect points held in each hand,
But lusty lightning crossed the land,
And left our logic in the sand.
Your virtues all were veiled from view,
My failings too, unseen by you,
That dizzy dance, we muddled through,
Till baby boots were peeking through.
I loved your laugh, a joyful blare,
You swooned at my debonair hair,
Ignoring habits hard to bear,
Like socks you'd leave upon the stair.
The list of likes we thought we'd find,
The kindred soul, the matching mind,
By Eros' edict, stayed behind,
As primal urges intertwined.
So now we chuckle, old and gray,
At how that madness ruled the day,
That chemistry that wouldn't sway,
And brought us here, come what may!

Important illusion
A mighty galleon of my own making,
its keel laid with the finest tales of my achievements.
I was its captain, its crew, and its glorious cargo,
sailing a bathtub sea of self-regard.
The mainsheet of my importance billowed and blew
until a single pinprick of honesty
let all the wind out.
Now the planks of that magnificent vessel
are the raised beds for my vegetable garden,
and my profound achievements grow carrots and kale.
