We build increasingly precise clocks,
forgetting that time has no hands.
Our schedules and strategies
are works of desperate performance art
attempts to prove to ourselves
that the next moment is already accounted for.
We believe our strict adherence to the rules
will somehow secure the cooperation of the game board itself.
The profound joke is that the cosmos doesn't have a schedule.
It doesn't adhere to the linear narrative of our plans.
Our systems are only a mirror;
when we master them,
we have not conquered the void,
we have only gotten very, very good
at watching our own reflection
while the real universe
does exactly what it was always going to do.
